Dr Kammer explains the dangers of how poor oral health affects your general health

The Dangers of Poor Oral Health are explained by Dr. Chris Kammer for the Quantum Health Oral Care Video Series.

Untreated oral health problems can lead to systemic health problems, such as heart disease, memory loss, cancer and even pregnancy complications.

Links between oral health and overall health are now clear.

Tooth and gum disease has been linked to the following conditions:

  1. Cardiovascular disease. Research shows that several types of cardiovascular disease may be linked to oral health, including heart disease, clogged arteries and stroke.
  2. Pregnancy and birth. Gum disease has been correlated to premature birth.
  3. Memory loss. A study of 270 elderly West Virginians found that 23% suffered from mild memory loss, and there was a correlation between memory loss and gum disease.
  4. Cancer. One study found that patients with poor oral hygiene had a 63% increased risk of pancreatic cancer.
  5. Diabetes. Diabetes increases your risk of gum disease, cavities, tooth loss, dry mouth and a variety of oral infections. In addition, bad oral health can exacerbate diabetes. Gum and tooth disease may cause blood sugar levels to rise.
  6. HIV/AIDS. Oral problems are very common if you have HIV/AIDS. Common symptoms include ulcers, dry mouth and painful lesions.
  7. Osteoporosis. The first stages of bone loss may show up in your teeth. Dentists may be the first to spot systemic osteoporosis.

As you can tell, your oral health is critical to your overall good health.

The American Academy Of Oral Systemic Health has been formed to help physicians and dentists to work closely together for the best health of their patients.

They are also on a mission to educate the public so that more people are aware of how their mouth health impacts on their body health.

Natural cold remedies: zinc lozenges & elderberry for flu & other common cold prevention tips

Treating the common cold, some natural cold remedies and other general cold prevention tips explained by Dr. Chris Kammer for the Quantum Health Video Series

blowing noses, boys, children, colds, flus, handkerchiefs, health, illnesses, kids, males, medicine, people, persons, sicknesses, tissuesThe average person gets two or three colds every year. And while a cold won’t kill you, it suppresses the immune system enough so that more serious problems can occur.

Many of us get the Flu, which can affect 20 to 50 percent of the population each year. It’s very contagious and is mostly spread by direct person-to-person contact.

Here are a few tips to prevent or minimize colds:

  1. At the very first hint of a cold or flu, take action!
  2. Thera Zinc Lozenges, Cherry, 24ctSuck on a zinc lozenge until it melts away. Then suck another every two waking hours. Or use a zinc-based oral spray such as Thera Zinc Spray from Quantum Health.
  3. Take the herb astragalus twice a day until you are better. A 250 mg dose is suggested. Also, Echinacea will help reduce the duration of a cold.
  4. If it’s the flu, the herb elderberry has been shown to help reduce the duration and severity of flu.
  5. Wash your hands often. This is the most common recommendation for good reason. It’s true. The Navy did a study on 40,000 people and found that regular hand washing cut their likelihood of getting a chest cold by 45%.

And here are a few you may not know:

Rub your eyes with a knuckle.
Eyes are an entry point for germs and you’re less likely to have virus germs on your knuckles than your fingers. Guess what? Most people rub their eyes or nose around 30 times a day.

Microwave your toothbrush.
Put it in for 10 seconds and you’ll kill germs that can cause colds and more. Also replace it every month when you change the page on your calendar and after you’ve had a cold.

Take the Dry Mouth Test & learn dry mouth causes from Dr Kammer

Do you suffer from dry mouth? Not sure?

Not only can it be annoying, you can develop serious health problems as a result of dry mouth. Understanding dry mouth causes may help you find the most suitable dry mouth treatment for you.

So here are some questions from Dr. Kammer to help you identify if you have ‘dry mouth’. So pull out your pen & paper, and let’s get started!

  1. Does your mouth feel uncomfortably dry?
  2. Does you saliva seem thick or stringy?
  3. Do you have sores or split skin at the corners of your mouth?
  4. Are your lips or tongue cracked?
  5. Do you have difficulty speaking or swallowing?
  6. Do you have bad breath?
  7. Has your sense of taste changed?
  8. Do you suffer from fungal infections in the mouth?
  9. Do you have increased plaque, tooth decay and gum disease?

If you answered, “Yes” to more than three of these questions, you may be suffering from dry mouth.

Dry mouth is hugely under-diagnosed and is often not dealt with as the serious medical condition that it is on a daily basis.

Dry mouth seems benign, but it is a real problematic health condition that can have a devastating effect on your oral health, prompting tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath due to a lack of oral moisture.

Saliva plays a huge role in protecting the mouth and teeth, reducing bacteria, helping digestion and more, so a person who doesn’t have the proper level of moisture can have severe consequences over time.

There are many products that can help, including prescriptions for very severe cases.

OraMoist, the breakthrough Dry Mouth TreatmentBut for most people, Dr. Kammer recommends OraMoist, a dry mouth moisturizer patch that adheres inside the mouth and slowly dissolves, releasing natural ingredients that moisten the mouth and therefore moisturizing the mouth for hours, day or night.

For more information on dry mouth and dry mouth treatment, please visit the OraMoist website, www.oramoist.com.

And you can watch more videos to learn about other important issues relating to Oral Health as part of the Quantum Health Oral Care Series. We hope you will find the advice useful. Thanks for watching!

Effective dry mouth treatment explained by dentist Dr Kammer

Dry mouth can be a very serious problem, but by using an effective dry mouth treatment, it is also treatable.

Dr. Chris Kammer, as part of the Quantum Health Oral Care Series, explains further.

If you have dry mouth, here are a few effective treatment options:

  1. Prescription drugs. Standard drugs include pilocarpine (Salagen) or cevimeline (Evoxac). Both increase saliva production, but both also have side effects, including excessive sweating.
  2. Lozenges and gum. Because dry mouth causes cavities and gum disease, make sure to use only sugar-free candies or gum – preferably those sweetened with xylitol, which has been shown to fight cavity-causing bacteria. OraMoist contains xylitol, which is mentioned towards the end of this post.
  3. Dry mouth mouthwashes and gels. These offer relief – but 20 minutes after using them you mouth is dry again.
  4. Lifestyle changes, like eliminating caffeine, alcohol, and smoking can help.
  5. Frequent sips of water moisten the mouth.
  6. If you are taking prescription drugs, talk to your doctor. He may be able to prescribe a different drug that minimizes the side effects.
  7. Avoid using over-the-counter antihistamines and decongestants, which may make your symptoms worse.

And be sure to check out OraMoist Dry Mouth Patch.

This is a revolutionary, time-released, muco-adhesive patch powered by edible natural ingredients that adheres to the roof of the mouth or inside the cheek. How to Use OraMoist for Dry Mouth Treatment

It also contains xylitol, which has been shown to fight cavity-causing bacteria.

As the patch dissolves over several hours (usually two to four hours), it releases ingredients that help increase saliva production alleviating parched, dry mouth. The increased moisture also helps restore a healthy oral environment, a significant benefit for dry mouth sufferers.

You can check out the OraMoist Dry Mouth Patch, and discover more information on dry mouth and dry mouth treatment at http://www.oramoist.com.
